Hello and welcome to the Kane Jarrod web site.
I guess if you are reading this page you have seen my images and you want to know more about who took them.
My name is Kane Jarrod Thompson, however "Thomo's Photography" didn't sit well hence the name Kane Jarrod.
I have over 18 years experience as a professional photographer. I completed an Advanced Certificate in Applied Photography at NMIT in 1993. Thanks to an offer by one of my lecturers to assist with some wedding photo shoots, I started my career as a wedding photographer.
I will never forget the first wedding as that assistant, looking down the view finder of a medium format Bronica camera and seeing the wonderful composition and thinking this is what l want to do. Today, over 1800 wedding photo shoots attest to my love and dedication to beautiful wedding photography.
Over the years you learn what makes great photographs, (the 5 L's), location, location, location, lighting and listening to the clients requirements. These are all aspects that as a professional photographer should be second nature. Unfortunately sometimes these aspects are forgotten in the larger wedding photographic industry. I work through the details during the initial consultation, I personally photograph your wedding and l work with you on the production of the album etc a totally hands on approach from start to finish. Of most importance l take the relaxed approach to wedding photography. Why add further stress with a frantic wedding photographer.?
It has been awhile since I updated my profile page, so I am again adding some more. I have very strong opinions regarding our industry and the business protocol that you as a possible client should expect of your wedding photographer.
Firstly with the digital age, (coming from the film days) I can't understand why the massive price increases for our services across the board. Sure there is more time spent in post production, but surely we are compensated for this with less overheads and less wastage than the film days.
Also I can't understand the average going price for the digital file being $2000.00. What is my industry doing to itself? Sure the digital file has a value but this figure is ridiculous. I have priced my high res Digital file at $660.00 Why? Because this was the average family reprint spend that I am now prepared to miss out on. The market is screaming out for it so give the market what the market wants. It's not rocket science. The digital file should not be used as a money grabbing exercise because of its emotional value!
What's with the minimum "Time" photographers are allocating to shoot a wedding? Surely it is in our best interest to get more time from the client rather than penalising them for making our job easier.
It is much more difficult to create timeless images if only allocated one hour and not two hours of photographic time between the end of the ceremony and the start of the reception. My coverage and prices remain the same starting from the bride's home and finishing at the reception regardless of the time from one end of the day to the other.
Also I am appalled at the relentless issues you as the consumer keep encountering time and time again of the "accidental" and massive four and six thousand dollar up sells! This happens with the lack of design elements being offered in the album planning stages. Only offering one and two prints per page is simply going to spread the information out over more pages and thus cost you more. My up sell is in the $500 - $1200 dollar range. Every one of my Clients is made aware of approximately how many extra pages will be required to complete their album to a high standard to justify the size of their coverage. There are no surprises! You are told exactly what you need to budget for when you employ my services.
Finally, make sure you receive your wedding proofs in a booklet format that you can take home (with the digiatl file) and make your decision of exactly what you wish to see in your Album in your own time. (Not on the photographers clock - used as a pressure "Up Sell"). You simply need time to absorb the information to best make an informed decision about the contents of your wedding Album.
Anyhow, these are my current issues with the industry and I can only encourage you as the consumer to ask more questions before making the investment into your wedding photography.
I welcome the opportunity of discussing with you your wedding requirements and developing a package that suits you and your budget. The "packages" described in the fee pages of this web site are indications only and are designed to give you an idea of what you might spend. A "package" assumes everyone's needs are the same which is obviously incorrect, so feel free to design a package that suits your budget and does justice to your wedding day.
I would also welcome discussing other aspects of photography such as portraits and commercial projects with you.
Thank you.
Kane Jarrod Thompson.
